Anti-Virus

Some anti-virus apps have been known to flag Where's My Droid. This isn't because it has a virus or any malware in it. Its due to the fact that Where's My Droid requires a lot of permissions. Many malware apps ask for a lot a permissions so they can steal personal info. That's what these anti-virus apps are warning about.

If you have an anti-virus app that is flagging Where's My Droid you may contact us at help@wheresmydroid. If you tell us the anti-virus app you are using we will contact them and can often get Where's My Droid removed as an alert. You can also usually report Where's My Droid as a false positive though the anti-virus app itself. This will also help to get us removed.

AVG classifies Where's My Droid a potentially unwanted program. This is because Where's My Droid requires a lot of permissions and may be used against you if you weren't the one to install the app.

You can get AVG to stop alerting about Where's My Droid by telling it to ignoring it. When you do a scan it should show Where's My Droid in the results. At the bottom of its description there is an "Ignore this threat" checkbox. Check that and it will stop alerting about Where's My Droid.

Malware Bytes

Alerts that a file with the name com.alienmanfc6.wheresmyandroid.apk has malware in it. There isn't actually any malware in it. This file is what was downloaded from Google Play to install Where's My Droid. Malwarebytes flags it because they want to alert people of our app.

To fix this you can tap the "Add to Whitelist" button in the scan result. If you re-install Where's My Droid the alert will most likely come back since it will download a new .apk file to install it.

Sophos Security

Calls Where's My Droid a potentially unwanted app: Android Walien (System monitor). It's warning that if you didn't install Where's My Droid then it could be used to spy on you. That's where it gets the (System monitor) description from.

If you get a popup from Sophos you can click the "Allow" button to have it stop telling you this. If you don't see that button click the "Details" button, then there is an "Allow" button that will keep Where's My Droid from showing up in the future.
