Nails light up when phone rings

Julia Welling

For once in their lives, Android users have one up on the iPhone. Japanese toy maker, Takama Tomy Arts. just took nail art stickers to a whole new level, when the company developed nail decals that light up when your fingers come in contact with an Android phone. The Lumi Deco Nail  uses technology that transmits small amounts of power to communicate with your smartphone, or other small electronic device. The nail decals may even light up when the person using them uses a card with a magnetic strip, like a credit card or subway card. Can you imagine seeing people walking around your city wearing these? It would be totally weird.

But what’s even weirder is that the set contains 16 decals, but only one decal in the set has the LED feature. Last time I checked, humans only have 10 fingers. What are you supposed to do with the other six? And why only one. If I’m going to wear light up nails, they better all match. I thought that whole “paint one nail a different color” trend was over. Having just one nail light up will just make you look like the modern day E.T.

What we really want to know is how long we have to prepare before the Lumi Deco Nail makes its debut in the US, because you know there will be teenage girls running around with these as soon as they arrive. (Note to parents: get rid of your teenage daughter’s Android now. Then, you won’t have to deal with this nonsense.) According to the NY Daily News. the toy company will consider expanding based on how well the product does in Asia first. I want to say I hope it does poorly, but I know it won’t. It’s only a matter of time before girl’s nails are lighting up like the Las Vegas Strip.

Do you think they the Lumi Deco Nails are cool or should they be labeled as WTF? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
