iPhone/iPad Stuck After Updating to iOS 7? Here’s How to Fix It

This is a rarity but if your iPhone/iPad is stuck somewhere in the Apple logo or at the recovery mode (shows the iTunes icon with the connector) after an iOS 7 upgrade, there’s no need to panic. Turns out that the problem is easily fixed with a hard reset. Or at best, a simple kick-out-of-DFU. Let me explain.

We found some users calling attention to a problem: after upgrading to iOS 7, the iPhone/iPad is stuck at the recovery screen or at the Apple logo. The restart never kicks in and instead, the iDevice is completely stuck.

Apparently, the cause of the problem is not very clear. May be this has something to do with the restart loops that the iDevice falls into. May be being in the DFU mode causes certain issues or may be iTunes isn’t kicking the iDevice out of DFU mode after the firmware upgrade.

No matter what the problem is, the first thing you try is a hard reset.

A hard reset is simple. Here’s what you need to do:

• Press and hold the power and home button till the screen goes blank.
• After the screen goes blank, let go of the buttons. After a while, press the power button till Apple logo shows up.
• If things went well, your iPhone/iPad should boot up succesfully.

A hard reset usually kicks the iPhone/iPad out of the DFU mode – which might have initiated a restart-loop or gotten the device stuck on logo.

Tip: Sometimes, when you do the hard reset, your iPhone/iPad falls back into recovery. Do a hard reset again and if the recovery/restore mode keeps popping up, you have no choice but to connect the iPhone/iPad to the computer/iTunes and go through the restore again.

It’s always safer to have your device backed up to iCloud or iTunes. Also, one important tip even at a time when Apple is actively pushing OTA: go for a wired upgrade through iTunes on your computer instead of an OTA. Much safer.
