The iPhone 6 screen size dilemma: 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch?

I've no intention of queuing up for the iPhone 6 – I have far better things to do with my time – but I'm still keen to pull the trigger on a preorder as soon as they hit the online Apple Store.

When it comes to capacity and color, I know what I want – Space Gray, 64GB – but on the issue of size I'm divided. Instinctively I want to go for the iPhone 6 Plus, not just because of the larger screen, but also because of the better battery life and the optical image stabilization.

But in order to get my hands on these cool features I need to buy a handset that's bigger than anything I've owned in a very long time.

My first iPhone was the iPhone 3GS, and compared to that the iPhone 6 Plus is gargantuan. Even compared to my current handset – the iPhone 5s – the jump is big.

I'm worried that the thing is going to feel more like the Nexus 7 or the iPad mini than an iPhone.

Now I could hold off and get some hands-on time with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in a store, but I know even will be artificial and hardly "real world." A few minutes at an Apple Store with a product isn't really going to cut it.

This is a new dilemma for me, and I have no doubt that it will be the same for a lot of people wanting to pick up an iPhone 6. While Android and Windows Phone users face a barrage of choice – ranging from manufacturer to screen size – Apple has thus far insulated iPhone users from having to think too much before handing their money over. And while buying an iPhone involves making fewer decisions than buying an Android or Windows Phone handset, I wonder how many people are going to stop and pause over the screen size.

And for how many will that pause turn into a delay?

For me, I'll probably still go for the iPhone 6 Plus. After all, if I don't get along with it I can take advantage of Apple's returns policy and get the smaller sibling instead.
